Emporia: The Founding City of Veterans Day!
Join us for the 73rd Emporia Veterans Day Parade as we come together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country!
Did you know Veterans Day has its roots right here in Emporia? In 1953, Emporian Alvin J. King proposed changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day to recognize veterans of all wars and conflicts. With the help of fellow Emporian Congressman Ed Rees, the idea became a reality when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the legislation in 1954.
Today, Emporia proudly carries on that legacy, and we invite our entire community to be part of this special tradition!
