Education is an important component of our community. Emporia offers several learning options, with Emporia State University, Flint Hills Technical College as well as public and private K-12.
Emporia State University
Changing lives since 1863, Emporia State University offers over 200 undergraduate and graduate academic programs within its four colleges: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Library & Information Management, and the Teachers College. ESU’s total enrollment is 5,324 which includes 2,740 undergraduate students and 2,584 graduate students.

Flint Hills Technical College
Founded in 1963, Flint Hills Technical College continually adapts to meet the needs of today’s workforce. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, FHTC offers innovative programs in the areas of health, arts, information technology and industry technology as well as short-term certificates and general education courses.

Emporia Public Schools – USD 253
- Includes an early childhood development center, six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school
- Foster a learning environment that demonstrates a balance of cognitive and social-emotional development

Emporia Christian School
- Includes preschool, elementary and middle school education
- Emporia Christian School is a place where students receive a Christian education focused upon strong academics
- Provide students with the tools they will need to be leaders both now and in the future, and to commit them to God
- Help our students to develop a close personal walk and relationship with Jesus Christ

Sacred Heart Catholic School
- Includes kindergarten to fifth-grade education
- Sacred Heart Catholic School has been committed to promoting faith and excellence for elementary school students in the Emporia area for over 125 years
- Small class sizes allow teachers to truly get to know each student to provide the necessary support for success
- Every classroom teacher is licensed by the Kansas State Department of Education
- Scholarships and financial aid are available to all families who qualify

North Lyon County Schools – USD 251
- Includes one elementary school and one high school
- Provides educational services to households within the county
- North Lyon County USD 251 is overseen by a local Board of Education, elected by voters within the district

Southern Lyon County Schools – USD 252
- Includes two elementary schools and two high schools
- Olpe Elementary School and Olpe High School
- Neosho Rapids Elementary School
- Hartford High School
