Identity Theft Workshop
April 12, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Register today for our Identity Theft Workshop to be held on Friday, April 12, beginning at 11:30 a.m., in the ValuNet FIBER Smart Room at the Trusler Business Center. Sergeant Travis Mishler with the Lyon County Sheriff’s office will be our presenter.
Identity theft can happen to anyone. According to a 2018 online survey by The Harris Poll, almost 60 million Americans have been affected by identity theft. This type of theft touches individuals and businesses alike. According to the Federal Trade Commission, the government agency that maintains a sort of warehouse for identity theft complaints, the crime falls into six major categories: Employment- or tax-related fraud (34%); credit card fraud (33%); phone or utilities fraud (13%); bank fraud (12%); loan or lease fraud (7%); and government documents or benefits fraud (7%).
Sergeant Mishler is pleased to share his knowledge with us. He has over a decade of training in identity theft awareness, active shooter, and much more. He is a 1996 graduate from Emporia State University and currently serves on the Kansas Intelligence Association, and is the District Seven representative.
Come learn how to be proactive recognizing the signs of this fraudulent crime. Registration is $20 for Chamber members and $25 for non-members (lunch included). Register today by calling the Chamber at 620-342-1600 or email Amanda Taylor at email@example.com.
