The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the 2017 Committee of the Year: Twinkies Festival.
This was the fifth year to hold the Twinkies Festival event. The event was held at the Flinthills Mall for the first four years and at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in 2017. Twinkies Festival has grown to consist of a Boxcar Derby, 5K Run/Walk, Eating Contest, carnival games, and more.
In 2017, we started the event off with the 5K Run/Walk with the help of the Emporia Rec Center. Then followed the Boxcar Derby, carnival games, and Lego tent. The Boxcar Derby took place at ESU on the northwest side of campus. Carnival games and a giant Lego tent began at 9 a.m. and ran until 3 p.m. The Lego tent was available thanks to Community National Bank & Trust and Emporia Public Library. We also had Emporia Police Department and Longbine Autoplaza present doing some giveaways.
The committee consisted of several people from multiple businesses and groups. Sponsors of the event donated sound, volunteers, and more.
The formal announcement of the 2017 Committee of the Year: Twinkies Festival, will be at the Emporia Area Chamber’s 121st Annual Meeting on Friday, January 26, 2018. The same evening, awards will be given to the Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and for Lifetime Achievement.
